The reasons why electric bicycles are not suitable for using lithium-ion batteries can be summarized in one word. Lithium iron phosphate batteries have no heavy metals, a battery recovery rate of over 95%, and the electrolyte is almost pollution-free. Some types of batteries are even drinkable, so the price of batteries with so many advantages is naturally not low. Although the price of nickel cobalt manganese ternary lithium-ion batteries is slightly lower than that of ordinary batteries, the selling price per kWh is also around 1500 yuan, and the overall price of some miscellaneous electric bicycles is only over 1000 yuan. How many people are willing to pay double the price for environmental protection?
Although lead-acid batteries suffer from severe heavy metal pollution and the electrolyte is also sulfuric acid, their advantage lies in their sufficiently low price. After being limited to 48V, the cost of a regular 12V-20a battery with four pieces is also half that of a lithium iron phosphate battery. If you trade it in, the price can be much lower.
However, the actual operating cost of lithium iron phosphate batteries is still very cost-effective in the long run. Over 2000 cycles of replay can ensure that capacity degradation is controlled at around 70%, while ordinary lead-acid batteries cannot even achieve one-third of the level of iron batteries. So, based on the frequency of battery replacement, it is actually more cost-effective to use iron batteries, but the excessive budget for purchasing a car has hindered the enthusiasm of many consumers.
In the short term, regardless of price, it is difficult to apply lithium iron phosphate batteries to two wheeled electric vehicles. This type of battery is important not only for automotive use, but also for decades as an energy storage battery in fields such as photovoltaics and wind power after being phased out.
